Research Opportunities

From time to time, A Gender Agenda is approached by researchers to promote their research to community. Opportunities that are currently open are listed below.

If you are a researcher, and your project will support the trans, gender diverse and intersex community, you can reach out and share your project with us at support@genderrights.org.au. You will need to demonstrate that your research will be of benefit to the trans, gender diverse or intersex communities, and has successfully been through an ethics review process. Ideally, your project will have also gone through community consultation or an ethics panel process with an LGBTIQ+ Organisation like Thorne Harbour Health or ACON (however, this is not an essential requirement) to be promoted by us.

Seeking interview participants for Optimise+

Help us make mental health and alcohol and other drug services more culturally safe and accessible for LGBTQ+ folks!

Share your experience of accessing (or trying to access) mental health support or alcohol/other drug support in Australia in a fully anonymous 1-hour online interview with our researchers.

Open to anyone LGBTQ+, aged 16+, who has accessed mental health / AOD services (or tried to/wanted to access services) in Australia.

Please share widely – let us know if you’d like a custom newsletter/socials tile!

The Optimise+ project is funded by the Medical Research Future Fund, and brings together the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society, La Trobe University, The Kids Research Institute Australia, and a range of universities, with LGBTQ+ advocacy organisations, including ACON, A Gender Agenda, LGBTIQ+ Health Australia, Living Proud, Meridian, Minus18 Foundation, Queensland Council for LGBTI Health (QC), Switchboard Victoria, Thorne Harbour Health, Transfolk WA, TGV | Transgender Victoria, Twenty10 NSW and Working It Out Inc.

TRANSform

transresearch.org.au/ongoingresearch

TRANSform is an ongoing research project designed to investigate the health and wellbeing experiences of the Australian trans and gender-diverse community.

Participants first complete the enrolment survey, where they provide their email address which is then used to keep in touch with them for two key purposes:

1. Invitations to participate in TRANSform sub-studies. Each year TRANSform involves 2-3 sub-studies on priority research topics, and participants may be invited to participate in these via email. All these sub-surveys are voluntary – if people do not want to participate, they can just ignore the email.

2. TRANSform research updates. Each year participants are also sent 2-3 research update emails to keep them informed of the progress of the research including any publications and media coverage. This allows participants to see the outcomes of the time and energy they give to the project.

More detailed information about the TRANSform design and impact can be found here.

Participants can opt out of TRANSform at any time, no questions asked.

Volunteer

From time to time, A Gender Agenda will need volunteers for a variety of different activities. These will be added to this page when they come up. If there is nothing here, but you are keen to let us know you can help out, please complete the form.

Please note – you will require a current, unrestricted, ACT Working With Vulnerable People Card to volunteer with AGA. You will also need to be a member of AGA (for insurance purposes).
